Maurice is the " godfather" of The Walkabout Program, a modern rites-of-passage from adolescence into adulthood. Dr. Gibbons first discussed his ideas in his seminal article in The Kappan magazine in 1974. Maurice has devoted his career as a professor at Simon Frasier University, consultant and writer to the exploration of self-directed learning as a critical educational goal and to rites-of-passage programs that attempt to develop the whole child.
